SPICY CHAI TEA

This delicious and festive beverage works great as a welcoming beverage for your guests’ arrival or as a perfect end to a sumptuous meal. Many of the herbs and spices are also helpful for enhancing digestion.

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups water

15 whole cloves

15 whole cardamom pods

15 whole black peppercorns

1 tablespoon of fennel seeds

2 sticks of cinnamon

4 slices of fresh ginger root ¼” thick

1 teaspoon of orange zest

½ teaspoon vanilla

2 cup plain soy or rice milk (dairy milk can also be used)

Maple syrup or agave nectar to taste

DIRECTIONS

Place water with all spices and ginger root in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Add milk, vanilla and orange zest. Simmer for 5 more minutes. Turn heat off. Strain tea and add any needed sweetener. Blend in a blender for added froth if desired. Serve in mugs or a teapot.

Makes 4-5 cups

  1. I'd revise and use almond, hemp or coconut milk in here. Also adding Rooibus tea leaves (non caffeinated) is great!
